Here we see Jesus as He truly is. He speaks with power and might: Receive your sight!
Thus, it becomes clear that Jesus sees right through that blind man. He probes what lives deep within him. Before him a person is standing who longs for the revelation of the promises once spoken concerning the Son of David.
And Jesus knows that that blind man believes that he is that promised Person. Therefore, he may now see Jesus with his own eyes.
Here, then, is a case of true faith. In a confessional document such true faith is beautifully described as, a sure knowledge whereby I accept as true all that God has revealed to us in his Word. At the same time it is a firm confidence...that the Holy Spirit works faith in my heart through the gospel
(Heidelberg Catechism, a 21).
