How does the mention of Peter's name contrast with that of the other eleven?

Mark 3:16 (ESV)

16 He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter);

In this summary Peter’s name is mentioned only indirectly, whereas the other eleven are presented and summed up with name (and nickname). The meaning of this can be inferred from the context: the name Petros (rock) underlines the fact that Jesus is busy laying a new foundation for Israel.1
