The region refers to the small villages around Antioch. Having been expelled from the synagogue, Paul and Barnabas visit the various villages and use the opportunities which they are given to speak. Since Jews tended to live in the cities and not in the villages, we can assume that most of those who were converted were of Gentile background.1
