What is the punishment for those who commit such sexual sins?

Leviticus 20:20 (ESV)

20 If a man lies with his uncle’s wife, he has uncovered his uncle’s nakedness; they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless.

The penalty for those who commit such sins is that they will be childless (‛ǎrîrî). The root of this word literally means, to be stripped. Thus, those who commit such sins will be stripped of their posterity. Children were considered to be a sign of blessing, partly because they would keep one’s name in remembrance (Psalm 113:9; Psalm 127:3–5). The lack of children signified judgment and was often surround by social stigma (1 Samuel 1:6).
