The next day,
the Philistines arrive on the battlefield to strip the dead and find Saul and his sons (1 Chronicles 10:8). Saul had committed suicide because he was terrified of the abuse the Philistines would mete out to him, should he be taken alive. His fears were justified because they stripped him, took his head and his armour
shaming him even though he was already dead.
8 The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
