What were the consequences of eating such an animal?

Leviticus 17:16 (ESV)

16 But if he does not wash them or bathe his flesh, he shall bear his iniquity.”

The persons who ate these kinds of animals were ceremonially unclean. They were required to undergo the rites of purification. If they neglected to do so, it would be seen as deliberate disobedience before God. The exact punishment, however, is not specified in this text.
