1. Revelation 21:15 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is the significance of John interrupting his report of his initial impressions of the city with a renewed reference to his guide?

Revelation 21:15 (ESV)

15 And the one who spoke with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city and its gates and walls.

We may picture John taken aback by the majesty and radiance of the city he saw descending from heaven. His tour guide, however, had some specific details to show him, and so drew John’s attention to those details. The renewed reference to the angel underscores that what John now describes is—in the angel’s opinion—too important to miss.
