Why is this sign described as “great”?

Revelation 12:1 (ESV)

1 And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

The term great does not mean that this sign is big in the sense that it fills the heavens but means instead that this sign is impressive; its message is worth noting!
