What was so beneficial in seizing the fords of the Jordan?
This location was near the river’s entrance to the Dead Sea. Thus, Israel prevented the enemy forces from retreating to the sanctuary of their own land. It also drove a wedge through the Moabite forces; now no reinforcements from the Transjordan could come to the aid of the beleaguered army.

28 And he said to them, “Follow after me, for the LORD has given your enemies the Moabites into your hand.” So they went down after him and seized the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites and did not allow anyone to pass over.
