The Lord says that he has called for a drought on the land and the hills, on the grain, the new wine, the oil, on what the ground brings forth, on man and beast, and on all their labors.
He refers to land, vegetation, staple crops, sustenance, humans, and beasts. That is, no aspect of living was unaffected. The whole of the created realm was involved in the consequences of the people’s sinful unwillingness to restore the temple.
