The Lord will provide security by removing harmful beasts from the land, that is, beasts that would terrorize the inhabitants of Canaan (see further Judges 14:5; 2 Kings 2:24; Isaiah 11:6–9). Moreover, the Lord will protect the land from military conflict. This is a remarkable promise that might easily be overlooked. The land of Canaan is positioned between two ancient military superpowers, Egypt and Mesopotamia. Canaan is where many of their military campaigns occurred. If the Hebrews are faithful to the covenant, they will not need to fear the threat of war.
6 I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid. And I will remove harmful beasts from the land, and the sword shall not go through your land.
