Normally the word therefore
moves a prophecy from explanation of the circumstances to a warning of judgment if God’s people continue in sin (for example, Amos 5:11, Amos 5:16–17). In this verse, however, the Lord uses the term to help make abundantly clear to his people why their situation exists. They are experiencing a lack of dew from the heavens and harvest from the earth because they are not rebuilding the temple of the Lord.1
10 Therefore the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce.
