What is the "believing" that John has in mind?

1 John 5:1 (ESV)

1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.

This faith has content. Believing that Jesus is the Christ is the core component of the faith, but faith holds to many other things that have been said in the previous chapter (1 John 4:2–3) and will be said in 1 John 5:6–12.1
