Eliashib the high priest is listed first as volunteering to repair a section of the wall. Being high priest would mean that he was not used to the rigours of construction work; volunteering to assist involved considerable self-denial. Herein Eliashib foreshadowed Christ Jesus as our great high priest. The Son of God left the glory of the Father for the hard work of living among sinners on earth and eventually going to the cross to atone for sin.
1 Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built the Sheep Gate. They consecrated it and set its doors. They consecrated it as far as the Tower of the Hundred, as far as the Tower of Hananel.
