What is meant by “to the upper chamber of the corner”?

Nehemiah 3:31 (ESV)

31 After him Malchijah, one of the goldsmiths, repaired as far as the house of the temple servants and of the merchants, opposite the Muster Gate, and to the upper chamber of the corner.

The term corner would here refer to the (sharp) angle which the wall now took as it turned from its north-south axis to an east-west axis (we have now come to the northern limit of the eastern wall). On this corner (originally a watchman’s tower?) was an upper chamber, that is, a room above the main floor (1 Kings 17:19, 1 Kings 17:23).
