We do not know with certainty anything about this Gate. Even the meaning of the word translated here as Muster
is difficult to determine. It should be noted that this Gate was not repaired but the wall opposite
this Gate was repaired. The ruins of this gate, then, serve as a landmark to Nehemiah’s readers of how far Malchijah repaired. They, unlike us, would have known this gate’s location.
31 After him Malchijah, one of the goldsmiths, repaired as far as the house of the temple servants and of the merchants, opposite the Muster Gate, and to the upper chamber of the corner.
