Multiple times in this section we are told that a given person rebuilt opposite
his house (Nehemiah 3:23, Nehemiah 3:25, Nehemiah 3:28, Nehemiah 3:29, Nehemiah 3:30, Nehemiah 3:31). In contrast, Nehemiah tells us that Azariah repaired a section of wall beside
his house. Perhaps this simply implies that his door did not face the wall but was at right angles to it. In any case, the wall ran alongside his dwelling.
23 After them Benjamin and Hasshub repaired opposite their house. After them Azariah the son of Maaseiah, son of Ananiah repaired beside his own house.
