1. Isaiah 50:10–11 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What are the contrasts presented in Isaiah 50:10–11?

Isaiah 50:10–11 (ESV)

10 Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the voice of his servant? Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.

What marks this third and final section of Isaiah 50:1–11 is the Lord’s contrasting of two sorts of reactions to the Servant, one of acceptance (Isaiah 50:10) and the other of rejection (Isaiah 50:11). Both classes of people walk, the one in darkness (Isaiah 50:10), the other in self-made light (Isaiah 50:11). The one has no light, the other is surrounded by the torches he has kindled.1
