Why does David say, “by the word of your lips”?

Psalm 17:4 (ESV)

4 With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent.

David’s note that by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent shows that he understands the Lord’s lips, and the word that comes from them, as the true guide to a life of integrity that avoids the paths of the violent, whose words are full of deceit (recalling Psalm 17:1).1
