1. Psalm 17:1 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why does the psalmist use three similar verbs in 17:1?

Psalm 17:1 (ESV)

1 Hear a just cause, O LORD; attend to my cry! Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit!

In Psalm 17:1 the psalmist calls the Lord to hear, attend to, and give ear to. This is a threefold urgent plea for the psalmist’s vindication in the face of severe opposition, perhaps false accusations.
