1. 2 Samuel 3:1 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does it mean that the house of David grew stronger and stronger?

2 Samuel 3:1 (ESV)

1 There was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. And David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul became weaker and weaker.

In 2 Samuel 3:1–39, the house of David is shown to grow stronger as a result of many sons (2 Samuel 3:2–5), the return of Michal (2 Samuel 3:14–16), David’s covenant with Abner (2 Samuel 3:12–13, 2 Samuel 3:20), support from the elders of Israel (2 Samuel 3:17–18), support from the tribe of Benjamin (2 Samuel 3:19), and support from all the people as a whole (2 Samuel 3:36–37).
