Revelation of God the Son

2 Samuel 4:1–12 (ESV)

1 When Ish-bosheth, Saul’s son, heard that Abner had died at Hebron, his courage failed, and all Israel was dismayed.

What does 2 Samuel 4 reveal about what God the Son does in my place and on my behalf?

God the Son did not grasp at the kingdom. Throughout his life, Jesus Christ patiently waited and submitted to the Father’s timing. He never used unjust methods to advance his cause. As a result of his perfect obedience and devotion to the Father, he was able to suffer the wrath that sinners deserve (the innocent dying in the place of the guilty). He was also able to merit the reward of eternal life in God’s presence.
