7 When they came into the house, as he lay on his bed in his bedroom, they struck him and put him to death and beheaded him. They took his head and went by the way of the Arabah all night,

The distance from Mahanaim to Hebron was 130 kilometres.1 It would not have been possible to make such a journey in a single night. Most likely the men travelled during night time so as to avoid detection by men loyal to Ish-bosheth.2
