1. 2 Samuel 2:27 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What did Joab mean when he said that, if Abner had not spoken, the men would not have given up the pursuit of their brothers until the morning?

2 Samuel 2:27 (ESV)

27 And Joab said, “As God lives, if you had not spoken, surely the men would not have given up the pursuit of their brothers until the morning.”

Joab said that if Abner had not propose representative combat at the pool of Gibeon, then there would have been no battle. To Joab’s mind, Abner is to blame for the fighting that had taken place.1
