38 “If my land has cried out against me and its furrows have wept together,

Before Job ends his speech, it is as if he suddenly remembers one last instance of uprightness in his life. He has been upright and merciful even toward his land, as God also commanded the Israelites to be (Leviticus 25:1–55). He has not exploited God’s creation for the sake of quick gain.
