Commentary on Job 31:34 (Summary)

Job 31:34 (ESV)

34 because I stood in great fear of the multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and did not go out of doors

Eliphaz had described the anxiety-ridden life of the wicked, who knows that his sin will be exposed (Job 15:20–24). But Job denies ever having felt this anxiety. He has never been afraid of people, because he has never had anything to hide.
