In addition to the generosity of Pharaoh that we have already seen, the king of Egypt brought Hadad into his own family by giving his wife’s sister to him. This woman, whose name we are not given, bore a son to Hadad named Genubath. The writer tells us that Tahpenes (the queen) weaned him in Pharaoh’s house. Does this mean that the queen of Egypt performed the function herself? It is also possible that she simply caused this to take place under her direction.
19 And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him in marriage the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen.
