1. Romans 5:7–8 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

How does Christ’s sacrifice for sinners amplify God’s love?

Romans 5:7–8 (ESV)

7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die

[B]ut God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). Are there any among us who had requested this sacrifice? No, God sacrificed his Son before humanity longed for him and for his glory. Therefore, in a certain sense, the introduction to this verse, which speaks about how hard it is to die for a righteous person (Romans 5:7), stands in contrast to what Christ actually did, namely to lay down his life for the unrighteous.1,2
