Commentary on Job 21:16 (Summary)

Job 21:16 (ESV)

16 Behold, is not their prosperity in their hand? The counsel of the wicked is far from me.

The prosperity of the wicked comes from God. This is what makes their disregard for God so detestable. And yet, God continues to bless them with prosperity. This is incomprehensible to Job, who had always lived in thankfulness and dependence on God (Job 1:5, Job 1:21; Job 2:10).
