In Leviticus 23:39, Moses returns to the discussion regarding the Feast of Booths. The placement of these verses at the end of Leviticus 23:1–44 does not necessarily mean that a later editor added the material. It may be that further elaboration is necessary due to lack of detail in the earlier explanation of the festival. The earlier descriptions of the Feast of Booths focused on the prohibition against work in addition to the required sacrifices. The following verses add further tasks for the people.
39 “On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the produce of the land, you shall celebrate the feast of the LORD seven days. On the first day shall be a solemn rest, and on the eighth day shall be a solemn rest.
