How does this passage relate to the New Testament?

Leviticus 23:44 (ESV)

44 Thus Moses declared to the people of Israel the appointed feasts of the LORD.

The feasts of Leviticus 23:1–44 form an important backdrop to the New Testament. Gordon Wenham writes, Nowhere is the continuity between the testaments so clear as in the calendar.1 Three of the major Hebrew festivals form a part of the Church calendar: Passover became Good Friday, the Feast of First Fruits became Easter, and the Feast of Weeks became Pentecost. It appears that these feast days served a preparatory role in anticipating what would be accomplished through the Messiah. The Feast of Booths, which reached its climax on the seventh day, is used by Jesus when calling people to himself. In John 7:37–38, Jesus stands up and says, If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Jesus saw himself as the ultimate fulfilment of the Feast of Booths. He is not merely analogous to the festival, but the very substance of it.
