The priest’s restoration is given in two stages. First, he must wait until the evening of the day of his uncleanness before he may approach any of the holy things. Second, he must wash his body to remove the impurity. It must be remembered that this process is symbolic signifying that the holy must be kept separate from the unholy.
6 the person who touches such a thing shall be unclean until the evening and shall not eat of the holy things unless he has bathed his body in water.
