1. Leviticus 21:8 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is the motive for this command?

Leviticus 21:8 (ESV)

8 You shall sanctify him, for he offers the bread of your God. He shall be holy to you, for I, the LORD, who sanctify you, am holy.

The priest must maintain marital purity because he serves in the Lord’s presence. The Temple signifies holiness, as such, the priest must reflect such purity even in his marriage.
