The priests were called to holiness in every area of their lives because they served in the presence of the Holy One. Their entire physical condition had to display the perfection of God's creation, just as the sacrifices had to be the best of the animal world. Physical wholeness or completeness symbolized the concept of holiness. In turn, it was designed to testify to the holiness of God and his sanctuary.
