Those who are obedient to God’s law are promised life. This does not refer to eternal life. Rather, life in the Torah refers to God’s blessing of an abundant and full life. To live in rebellion against the Creator of life is to choose death and destruction. The law, then, was designed to enable Israel to live as God’s holy nation and receive the blessings he had promised.
5 You shall therefore keep my statutes and my rules; if a person does them, he shall live by them: I am the LORD.
