1. Galatians 4:8 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

To what period of time is Paul referring when the Galatians did not know God?

Galatians 4:8 (ESV)

8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods.

Paul is referring to the time before the conversion of the Galatians, a time when they did not worship God but worshipped created things (Romans 1:21–25).1 Though there would have been Jewish converts in the church, he is thinking primarily of those who came from a Gentile background.
