Summary of Ecclesiastes 5:7

Ecclesiastes 5:7 (ESV)

7 For when dreams increase and words grow many, there is vanity; but God is the one you must fear.

This verse serves as the conclusion and wrap-up of the section that is mainly about the words you speak as a human being. People dream a lot. People talk a lot. The trouble is that many words are so often empty and hollow. They have no real substance. You are also held responsible for those words towards God. The only way to avoid empty words that really are nothing more than dreams is to realize that you speak every word before the ears of God. A deep reverence for him is the only remedy to make you think before you open your mouth. Here too, fear and reverence for the Lord is the beginning of knowledge and wisdom (see Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 1:7).
