The term might prompt us to imagine these “servants” offering sacrifices of some form to God (Hebrews 9:9; Hebrews 10:2). As there shall be no sacrifices in the New Jerusalem, we need to think in terms of willing obedience (Romans 12:1), that is, an inner service of the heart. God had given Adam in Paradise the mandate to “work” the Garden and “keep” it (Genesis 2:15), a mandate he failed to carry out. In the New Jerusalem there will be no such failure.
3 No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him.
