Each scene takes us deeper into the glories of the God’s holy city, the New Jerusalem the Lord is presently constructing. Once we have been shown these four portraits, the stage is set for the Lord’s final assurance to John that he is returning soon (Revelation 22:6–21), and so the New Jerusalem will be completed.
22 And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb.
