1. 1 Peter 5:11 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why does Peter close this paragraph with the word “amen”?

1 Peter 5:11 (ESV)

11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

The term amen is Hebrew for the word faithful, and denotes the conviction that God is true to all his promises. What Peter drew out for his readers in this paragraph was built on God’s earlier promises and so was trustworthy. His having dominion underscores that question in the face of all opposition. Peter expresses that conviction with the word amen.
