1. 1 Peter 5:10 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is meant by the phrase “a little while”?

1 Peter 5:10 (ESV)

10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

The Greek does not have the word “while,” an inclusion in the English that makes us think of time. Peter uses simply a term that means few, short, little. The point is that the splendour of the glory to come so greatly outweighs the tears of today’s struggles as to relegate them to “little,” and hence relatively insignificant. See Genesis 29:20.
