1. 1 Samuel 29:7 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does Achish mean when he calls on David to go in peace?

1 Samuel 29:7 (ESV)

7 So go back now; and go peaceably, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines.”

Go peaceably is a cordial expression of farewell (2 Samuel 15:9, cf. 2 Samuel 15:27).1 David can return to Ziklag without any damage to his reputation (in the sight of Achish).
