Where was Nob?

1 Samuel 21:1 (ESV)

1 Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech the priest. And Ahimelech came to meet David trembling and said to him, “Why are you alone, and no one with you?”

Nob was located south of Gibeah and about two miles north of Jerusalem. It appears to have been the primary sanctuary site at the time,1 with the priests having relocated to Nob after the destruction of Shiloh (see 1 Samuel 4:1–22; Psalm 78:56–64; Nehemiah 11:32).2
