The Masoretic Hebrew Text reports that Goliath was over nine feet (three metres) tall. According to the Greek Septuagint, his height was closer to six feet (two metres). In either case, he was at least a head taller than the average men who lived at that time. Given the emphasis on his size, it is likely that he was a descendant of the Anakim (see Numbers 13:33; Deuteronomy 2:10, Deuteronomy 2:21; Deuteronomy 9:2; Joshua 11:22; Joshua 15:13).1
4 And there came out from the camp of the Philistines a champion named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
