In the biblical sense (see Psalm 1:1–6), to mock is to proudly elevate oneself above God’s Word. Zophar is determined to mock Job for this. The word mock means to put someone to shame in a court case. This shows how far Job and his friends have moved apart. His statements are now approached as those of a criminal, with a view to rebuking them one at a time.
