What does Abram’s return from Egypt signal?

Genesis 13:1 (ESV)

1 So Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negeb.

Abram was coming from taking refuge in Egypt, where he had temporarily gone in order to escape from the famine in Canaan. While in Egypt he was moved by fear to connive his way to survival. The flight to Egypt shows that Abram went through a moment when he showed little trust in the God that had called him. However, he was now withdrawing from this place of doubting God and of self-confidence, and was coming back to his place of promise and worship.1
