Because of these terrible abominations, the Lord also brought a terrible disaster upon the Israelites. This disaster would befall capital and country, according to this verse, as both were guilty. The tingling of ears is an expression which is used when calamities have happened; and this expression means that what you see is taken in so violently as if something big exploded close to your ears. For those who observe this, the punishment of the Lord has a paralyzing effect.
12 therefore thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing upon Jerusalem and Judah such disaster that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle.
