Why is there a reference to Dan and Beersheba?

1 Samuel 3:20 (ESV)

20 And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established as a prophet of the LORD.

Dan to Beersheba refers to the traditional limits of Israel’s north and south (2 Samuel 17:11; 1 Kings 4:25).1 The reference to these two places thus indicates that everyone in Israel recognized Samuel as a prophet.
