Commentary on Genesis 2:12 (Summary)

Genesis 2:12 (ESV)

12 And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there.

The land of Havilah was known for its gold. It was pure gold, that is, gold that did not need much processing or refining. Additionally, this land was then known for its bdellium (a fragrant and valuable resin) and the onyx stones (a gemstone) that came from there. The resin has a smell similar to myrrh and was used in aromatic perfumes.
