Genesis 1:5 (ESV)

5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

The alternation between night and day has begun. The great clock that God created has started ticking. God is also the Creator of time. Time is a creation and not something that came into being by itself or through a decision of man. Time is also in God’s hands (see, e.g., Joshua 10:13–14 and 2 Kings 20:9–11). Time is finite and transient. One day the Lord will put time—as we know it—aside. That does not mean that existence in eternal glory will be timeless (see Revelation 22:2; Isaiah 66:22–23). The experience of time will be different than it is now. Here we also face a mystery that the Lord will reveal to us when Christ returns.
